About us
A4U is a registered charity and Disabled Persons Led Organisation (DPLO).
A4U was originally established as an advice service in the 1990s and has been making a difference to the lives of people with disabilities, long-term conditions and carers ever since. We celebrated our 30th anniversary during 2023.
Since 2015, A4U has also delivered a specialist Autism Hub for autistic adults aged 18 and over.
We aim to offer a safe and welcoming environment for all and continuously review and develop our services based on the needs of participants.
Our aims and ethos remain constant; however, we keep our activities and delivery methods under continuous review, working alongside our participants and other stakeholders to develop services.
Our Key Strengths
We listen
We respect everyone as an individual without prejudice & with empathy
We are impartial and non-judgmental
We spot and nurture potential
We know that everyone can contribute
We go the extra mile
We look at situations holistically, finding solutions
Our Principles
Beneficiaries first
We exist for the public benefit; the interests of the people we work for should be at the heart of everything we do.
Integrity
A4U trustees, staff and volunteers should uphold the highest levels of institutional integrity and personal conduct at all times
Openness
Everyone who comes into contact with A4U, as well as the wider public, should be able to see and understand how we work, how we deal with problems when they arise and how we address complaints in addition to our legal responsibilities
Right to be safe
Every person who volunteers with, works for or comes into contact with A4U should be treated with dignity and respect, and feel that they are in a safe and supportive environment
