A4U Autism Support Services (Shropshire Autism Hub)

1:1 Support

Pre-Assessment Support & Understanding Autism
We provide support for people who are awaiting an autism assessment. We can help you to understand what autism is and provide information about the assessment process. If needed, we can also support you to complete your Autism Assessment Referral Form. While waiting for an assessment, you can also attend our weekly Understanding Autism Course, which is delivered hybrid (online and in person) throughout the year.

Autism Courses for people with a diagnosis
We provide short courses for small groups of people who have received an autism diagnosis, giving them the opportunity to learn more about autism alongside their peers. Our small group courses cover a range of topics, including:
• Anxiety and Emotional Regulation
• Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)
• Autistic Burnout
• AuDHD (Autism and ADHD)
• Executive Functioning
Due to the level of demand for this service, you will need to wait for open spaces for the course you are looking to complete. Once you make a referral you will be given expected timescales for when the next availability is.

Peer Support & Social Groups
Our Hub hosts a range of peer support and social groups, providing a welcoming and inclusive space for autistic adults, family members, and carers to connect with others who share similar experiences.
Our groups include:
Carers, Friends and Family Group – A supportive space for family members, friends, and carers to connect with others, share experiences, discuss challenges, and access information and practical advice.
Discussion Group – A friendly group where autistic adults can explore a variety of topics, share experiences, exchange ideas, and learn from one another in a safe and respectful environment.
Board Games Group – A relaxed social group where people can enjoy a range of board games while developing connections, building confidence, and having fun with others who share similar interests.
You must be registered with A4U and the Shropshire Autism Hub to attend our Peer Support & Social groups.

Reasonable Adjustment Support
We support autistic people to access services and environments more confidently by helping them identify and communicate their reasonable adjustment needs. As part of this support, we can work with you to create a personalised “About Me” document that explains your individual strengths, preferences, communication style, sensory needs, and any adjustments that may help you.
These documents can be tailored for a variety of settings, including:
Workplaces
Hospitals and healthcare services
GP surgeries
Colleges and training providers
Voluntary and community services
Other public and private sector settings
An “About Me” document can help professionals better understand your needs, reduce barriers, and ensure appropriate support and reasonable adjustments are in place. The document is personalised to reflect what is important to you, helping you feel more confident and ensuring your voice is heard.
Due to the level of demand for this service, you may need to wait up to 8 weeks to receive 1:1 support.
