Information & Advice Service

We offer confidential and impartial information & advice about disability and long-term conditions, including welfare benefits, to adults aged 16 to state pension age living in a Shropshire council area. We welcome enquiries from people with disabilities and long-term conditions, their families and carers, as well as health and social care professionals.

Welfare Benefits

We provide welfare benefits advice and casework support and in some cases appeals, for:

Personal Independence Payments (PIP)

Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

New Style Employment Support Allowance (ESA)

Universal Credit

Carers Allowance

Work Capability Assessment

 

Money & Budgeting

We provide information & advice to support people with managing their money and budgeting. 

This work can include:

Grant searches and applications

Council Tax Reductions

Income Maximization

We do not provide ongoing budgetting support or any advice around debt.

General Disability Advice

Information, advice and support on disability-related matters, including Blue Badge applications, disabled bus passes and grants.

 

 

Care Act

Information and guidance on Care Act rights, including needs assessments, care and support planning, and accessing services. Guidance around Care Contribution disability related expenses. 

 

 

Housing Information

Information & signposting for housing options, housing-related issues, and support available to help you maintain suitable accommodation.

 

Discrimination

Information and advice on disability discrimination, equal rights, and support to challenge unfair treatment.

 

 

Employment

Advice on workplace rights and reasonable adjustments, helping disabled people access and remain in employment.

 

 

Family

Information and advice for family of those with disabilities including carers. Support includes Carer’s Allowance applications and guidance on carers’ rights and available support. We also provide advice and information around future financial planning for people who have family members with disabilities including lasting power of attorney, trusts and wills. 

 

Our Support Delivery

Our Information and Advice service is delivered either remotely via telephone, email or video call, or face to face at Louise House in Shrewsbury.
