BBO SHROPSHIRE BANNER

What is BBO?

The Building Better Opportunities programme is jointly funded by the European Social Fund and the National Lottery Community Fund to tackle the root causes of poverty, promote social inclusion, and drive local jobs and growth.  The project helps those furthest away from employment to gain the skills and experience they need to get into work.  The BBO Shropshire project is led by Landau and will work with people 19 and over who are not working and have the right to work in the UK.

What are we doing at A4U?

A4U’s BBO project will work with adults on the autistic spectrum. The aim of our work is to support participants to overcome the barriers preventing them from becoming more confident active members of the community.  We will take a small steps approach to support participants gaining life and work skills and in gaining confidence.

Together with the participant we will make a plan to help identify barriers and how we can work together to overcome them. The project at A4U will not place any pressure on participants to progress until they feel ready to do so. Each participant will lead how they would like to progress and what parts of the projects activity they would like to access.o

The project will provide small group work courses covering such areas as Money and budgeting, Pre employment skills, Cookery and independent living skills.  These groups will provide a positive environment where small steps are recognised, and progress can be achieved at the pace of the participant.  There is also an opportunity to progress to certificated learning such as food hygiene certificates.o

In addition, the project will provide 1-1 support for participants to practice skills learnt in the small groups in their own home or in the community. For example, cooking a meal in their own home or putting travel training skills into practice in the community.o

The project will also offer in-house work experience placements in the community café and office.
